It Goes To Intent
Breaking the Ninth Commandment for Fun and Profit

www.cuttingedge.org/news/n1603.cfm

The authors of the above are speaking about a Christmas card that was sent by the First Family. The card enclosed (or had printed on it) a scene, presumably of the first family, or something like that. It was a scene from inside the White House, I suppose, and in the background, hanging on a wall was a decoration that they say is a Phoenix - a mythological symbol for death and rebirth, or whatever.

They seem to have taken a magnifying glass and scoured the background of the scene and found this obscure thing in the background of the image. They then go on to claim that Laura Bush sent out this card "featuring" a Phoenix and is therefore involved in the occult. They do not show you the entire photograph so that you can see the thing in perspective. Otherwise, you might see that the thing is far from "featured." It is actually (probably) nothing more than a miniscule decoration in the background.

Now then... is it possible that to Laura Bush, or anyone for that matter, that the thing just looked like an interesting antique or artifact - a collectible? Something pretty. Something interesting. A nice decoration? I have bought things like this because they are memorabilia, or for no other reason than they were just pretty or elaborate decorations. Pieces of intricate artwork.

But they ignore the obvious explanation and instead immediately set about accusing the Bush's of being devil worshippers!

These people remind me of simple-minded Christians I've known who are so superstitious that they are actually suspicious of words like "demonstration" because it contains the word "demon."

But unless you can prove that that was actually their intent - unless you take the time to actually find out if they purposely hung the thing on their wall with full knowledge and complicity, then you are guilty of breaking the Ninth Commandment - you have borne a false witness against your neighbour.

In other words, the ninth commandment can take the form of what we more commonly call "jumping to conclusions."

(If anyone has a copy of this photo, would you please send it to me? Thanks.)
